Susan Adams, Ph.D.

 

Dr. Susan Adams is an Associate Professor in the Counseling Program in the Family Studies Department at Texas Woman’s University. She received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Counselor Education from Texas A&M University – Commerce in 2000 and taught at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS for four years before joining TWU’s faculty in the Fall of 2004.
 
Dr. Adams has been active in her professional organizations on a local, state, and national level.
She has held numerous leadership roles within the state, national, and international organizations over the past dozen years of her professional career.

Among her professional counseling specialties are grief & loss issues, crisis intervention, and shame-based identity. She has taught master’s level coursework in all of these areas, in addition to numerous clinical areas; has a private practice off the Square in Denton; has more than 4 dozen publications; and over 125 professional presentations on a variety of topics within the academic, corporate, and secular populations. Dr. Adams has been a keynote speaker at several state, national, and international conferences, including the International Grief Conference.  She is a volunteer with Denton County Emergency Preparedness Team and has worked with the disaster personnel related to Hurricane Katrina, Rita, and Gustav evacuees.  She also has worked with school and community personnel related to specific crisis situations.
